2 Essential Oils To Help Calm Your Autistic Child

Like other children, autistic children will often go through a tantrum. The severity of the tantrum is often increased in autistic children. Therefore, it can be difficult to calm them down. This is even more difficult to do if you find yourself in a public place. Like other children, your autistic child will not simply stop their tantrum because you say so. Instead, you have to look for ways to calm them down. Luckily, there are a few essential oils that you can carry with you in order to do the trick.

Chamomile and Rose Oil

If you enjoy tea just a little bit, then you may already be familiar with chamomile. Chamomile is one of the more commonly used herbs in tea because it is considered to be a natural relaxant. The herb has the ability to soothe tensed and stressed areas throughout the body. When paired with rose it creates a powerful calming mixture. You can use chamomile and rose on your child by creating a mixture in a small bottle. Fill a quarter of the bottle with olive oil, then add equal parts of chamomile and rose oil to the bottle. Once your child appears to become agitated or stressed, use your hands to rub the mixture into their chest for a few minutes.

Lavender Oil

Whenever chamomile oil is mentioned, lavender oil is usually not far behind. Lavender is another relaxing herb that you can find listed as an ingredient in your favorite teas. In order to use lavender oil, fill a small bottle with a quarter cup of coconut oil, then add several drops of lavender oil to the mix. You can use the oil on your child by rubbing the mix between your hands until it is somewhat warm. If you have time, you can heat your mixture up in a bath of hot water before level your home. Avoid putting any heat directly in the oil mix. Instead, the heat from the water should be enough to slightly warm it up. Gently rub the oil mix into your child's skin. Place a few drops near their temples and nose.

Trying to calm down your autistic child once they are extremely stressed can be near impossible. The key is to address the issue before your child's stress levels escalate and it becomes a full blown tantrum. Use this tips to ensure that you are able to do this.
